Yesterday racing was once again canceled with winds around 30 knots at the 12 o’clock start time. The Race committee postponed us on shore until 2 when they would reassess the conditions and make a decision. At 2 they once again pushed it back, but now until 5 o’clock. Most of the sailors were fed up with waiting and pushed the race committee into calling it for the day. Not more than 30 minutes after making the call, the winds died down to closer to 10 knots and 12 of the 35 boats went out sailing to take advantaged of the little amount of time they were given.

Me and Karl would have been one of those boats, but when I asked him if he wanted to go out, he said that he had things do on the boat to get it ready for tomorrow. It was a legitimate excuse since he had to check the centerboard trunks, put on positive rotation and tweak a prototype for mast rotation quick release.

So instead of sitting on shore, I went out with Jill on the coach boat to watch the other boats sail in quickly dying breeze and big rollers on the lake. Today already looks better with winds around 8-13 knots and no seas at all. It is the day of racing that we have all come for.
