As I sit here surrounded by the countries top sailors in Oyster Bay, New York I can’t help but think about my beginnings in this sport back home in Rocky River, Ohio.
I can remember when I was 7 years old and my siblings were getting ready to go to sail camp at CYC in Rocky River, Ohio. I was so anxious and excited to turn 8 so that I could be a sailor like them! The summer I turned 8, I was on the water and was introduced to sailing on an Optimist. It wasn’t long before I was begging my dad to take me to regattas where I could meet new friends and sail my boat as fast as I could!
I had no idea what I was getting into but that summer was the beginning of what has become a lifelong pursuit of endless goals, new opportunities friends that I will know throughout my entire life.
Today my life is filled with school (Just started my senior year of high school), practice, regattas, travel, coaching and pushing my body as far as I can. It is a daily pursuit to become as much as I can each and every day. I trail and race at venues all around the world, but it is always nice and refreshing to return to Rocky River, Ohio and CYC.
Following the NACRA 17 Nationals, I am returning home to Rocky River, Ohio once again for a special dinner with friends and supporters of my efforts to win Olympic Gold in Rio 2016! My family and friends have been talking to local businesses and lining up some incredible items that we are going to auction off at my benefit dinner.
